Galapagos Islands Things To Do

Things To Do

There are as many ways to see the Galapagos as there are islands in the archipelago. If you’ve arranged a cruise, the most common option, many of the following activities will be pre-arranged. There are other options, however, especially if you prefer to stick to Santa Cruz and nearby islands. more You can base yourself in Puerto Ayora and hire boats for day trips, bring your own snorkel/dive gear, or rent surfboards and kayaks from hotels and tour agencies.

Hiking
If you expected a boat to take you everywhere guess again – there are miles of well-marked hiking trails on many of the islands, most notably Prince Philip’s Steps on Genovesa. A favorite for birdwatchers, this trek begins at an 82-foot-long set of rocky stairs surrounded by masked- and red-booby nests.

Post Office Floreana
British whalers began the tradition of leaving post cards in this box for sailors returning home to deliver to loved ones. Tourists keep the tradition alive by personally delivering – and depositing – the mail in the wooden barrel used as the mailbox.
