Hilton Head Neighborhoods

Neighborhoods

Other than the small collection of shops and restaurants in Harbour Town, the 42-square-mile island of Hilton Head lacks a real town center. Rather than a collection of neighborhoods, per se, the carefully preserved island is divided into several resort areas known as “plantations.”

Forest Beach
One of the island’s few non-gated neighborhoods, this area is home to two gorgeous beaches – North Forest and South Forest – as well as Coligny Plaza, one of the island’s most-visited shopping, dining, and entertainment complexes.
Hilton Head Plantation
Nature trails, a full-service marina, and community swimming pool make this family-friendly plantation at the north side of the island a popular choice for vacationers and for seniors.
Palmetto Dunes
The trio of golf courses is as magnetizing as its three miles of sandy beach. Easy access to shopping and restaurants is another big draw, as are the 25 tennis courts.
Port Royal
The most historically significant of all the plantations boasts three golf courses, tennis courts, and a short walk to the beach from virtually any place in the neighborhood.
Sea Pines
Even if you’re not staying in this plantation, you should still visit for the golf, nature trails, marina, restaurants, and photo ops at the famous red-and-white-striped Harbour Town lighthouse.
