The waterfalls can be accessed via the bustling Brazilian border city Foz de Iguacu, 17 miles from Iguazú National Park (and minutes from Paraguay’s Ciudad del Este), but we recommend approaching through Argentina’s Puerto Iguacu – a city tucked into the northwest tip of the red-earthed Misiones province.

This river-flanked frontier town, 11 miles from Parque Nacional Iguacu, is best known for hosting cataratas (waterfalls) visitors. It’s smaller and calmer than its Brazilian equivalent, Foz de Iguaçu.
