Italian Lakes When To Go

Peak Season: July to August
Expect warm, sticky nights and hot days with temperatures in the mid-30s. Lakes Garda and Como are particularly popular, though horde haters can always head up into the cooler, quieter mountains. Prices are naturally higher. Make reservations in advance.
Off Season: November to March
Frozen fog and snow are not unusual from November to March and many hotels and some restaurants are closed. Ferry services on the lakes are also drastically reduced. If you must visit in this period, Lake Garda will be a sunnier bet.
Sweet Spot: April to June; September to October
Lighter crowds, stunning spring floral displays, Autumn foliage, and warm sunshine (generally without the humidity) make this an ideal time to visit any of Italy’s northern lakes. Prices are lower than in high-season. Hotel reservations are recommended.
