Johannesburg When To Go

Peak Season: March to November
Johannesburg is a major business hub, especially during the winter months. Look out for big conferences or conventions as hotel accommodations are at a premium. Although it’s winter in Johannesburg, temperatures are mild (averaging in the 50s). Visitors from all over the world use the city as a launching pad for game lodges and safaris (when its cooler and wildlife viewing is at a premium because of sparser foliage).
Off Season: December to February
Summer brings warmer-but-still-mild temperatures averaging in the 70s. Though hotel rates aren’t much lower than in high season, residents clear out and head to the coast for local school holidays, making this the best time of year to be in the city. The city slowly starts filling up again at the end of January.
