The island’s premier club for some 35 years is also one of Europe’s most famous discotheques. Different rooms have different rhythms (house, techno, Latin, soul, hip-hop); the roof-top terrace is the appointed chill-out zone.

Old advertising posters, funky glass chandeliers, and art deco touches provide the perfect ambiance for a night of jazz or blues in this converted 19th- century theater.

Calling this wildly popular spot a “nightclub” is a bit of a misnomer as the DJs here don’t crank up until 8 a.m., catching the crowds as they disperse from the clubs shutting down everywhere else.  Closed October-early-June.

Candle light, deep sofas with thick pillows, tented seating areas, and a garden make this one of Ibiza’s top lounge bars and a great escape from the island’s frenzied club culture. Closed late-October-March.

One of the island’s “musts” for the summer clubbers, this mega-disco attracts a largely British crowd and is, not surprisingly, served by British DJs.  Bring a bathing suit: at dawn, the sprinklers open up to drench the overheated dancers.

Café del Mar is perfectly situated on Sant Antoni’s famed Sunset Strip – an area where the young gather each evening to enjoy the sight of the sun dropping into the sea. Enjoy a pre-dinner pitcher of sangria on their beachside terrace.

Ibiza’s hippie heritage lives on in this converted roadside tavern. Counterculture types, jet-setters, and even the occasional family, frequent its many areas (there is a live music venue, several bars, a Morocco tea tent, a garden, and two restaurants).

This Brazilian-themed nightclub is frequented by a slightly older crowd and is famed for its all-night parties. There is a separate cocktail lounge which serves powerful mojitos, caipirinhas, and daiquiris.

Formentera’s most famous discotheque is popular enough to draw clientele from club-infested Ibiza. Expect all the usual madness, plus lots of Italians.

Opera arias on the sound system, lots of flowers and fruit baskets, plus pricey cocktails are the hallmarks of this perennial favorite in Palma’s La Lonja restaurant district. The old manor it’s housed in even has a shady patio.
