From the deserts of Dubai to Tel Aviv’s beaches, the countries that comprise this region are strikingly diverse and impossible to generalize. There is, however, one overriding similarity – all are incredibly hospitable. Although Israel and Lebanon are the region’s most liberal destinations, nearly all accommodate Western sensibilities, including dress and alcohol.

United Arab Emirates

Syria
Late president Hafez al-Assad only recently introduced tourism here, making it ideal for thorough exploration. Few can boast having two of the oldest cities in the world, Damascus and Aleppo, within their borders.
Oman
This serene Gulf country may seem sleepy compared to its neighbors, but that is precisely what makes it so alluring. Be sure to venture out of Muscat, the capital, to experience the natural wonders of Salalah and Musandam.
Lebanon
Although smaller than its neighbors, size has no bearing on the amount of attractions here. Political unrest remains even after the recent war with Israel, yet tourists can still enjoy plenty of sights worry-free.
Yemen
If ancient sights were commodities akin to petroleum, then Yemen would make Gulf Sheikh’s seem penniless. And with three World Heritage Sites, and eleven on the waiting list, unlike their neighbors their resources aren’t diminishing.
Qatar
In contrast to Dubai, Doha values sophistication over world records. World-renowned architects may be designing the future skyline here, but at present it still seems like one massive construction site.
Jordan
