Montreal Great Values

Great Values

Even if American currency didn’t go farther in Canada, Montreal would still be a bargain compared to pricey cities like New York and Los Angeles, where even a cocktail can set you back as much as $20. That doesn’t mean you shouldn’t keep an eye on spending in this famous French-Canadian city – more it can be remarkably easy to blow your budget amidst all of the flashy hotels, shops, and restaurants. Here, we introduce you to the attractions and establishments that are as affordable as they are memorable.

Smart Splurge    Great Value
This intimate boutique hotel’s 105 rooms, many of which have exposed brick walls, are spacious, flooded with natural light, and overlook the cobblestone streets of Old Montreal. In the tastefully decorated rooms you’ll also find WiFi and an umbrella (in case the weather isn’t cooperating). Though modest, the gym is fully equipped and features a massage room. The hotel’s dining options include the Verses dining room, which includes a terrace and bar, as well as the Méchant Boeuf (mean beef) brasserie. A wine and cheese cocktail reception provides a warm welcome for weary travelers.

This rustic, 19th-century B&B is one of the best values in the city – not only for its large, high-ceilinged rooms with exposed brick walls, but for its free WiFi and location on the cusp of Old Montreal and near both the Berri-UQAM and Champs-de-Mars Metro stations. You’ll really feel like you’re staying in someone’s home here, especially with the no-shoes rule when you’re in the house. Breakfast changes every day, with a fresh omelet baked into a crepe on Saturdays and thick country French toast on Sundays. Each of the six rooms has its own unique décor, including The Apartment, which actually boasts two separate bedrooms and can sleep up to five.
