Morocco When To Go

The summer months see the most tourists (and the highest prices) in Morocco, but this is also an incredibly hot time of year. Marrakesh and Fez literally feel like ovens set to broil, with temperatures often pushing 100 degrees. The coastal towns along the Atlantic and Mediterranean are cooler. Ferries from Spain are packed with Moroccans migrating from Europe for summer visits, but finding a seat usually isn’t a problem.

Cold temperatures (40s and 50s in Fes; into the 60s in Marrakesh) keep crowds low during the winter months, but as long as you come prepared for cold and snow in the mountains and rain in the north, you can take advantage of very low room rates and a more sedate travel scene.

The ideal time to visit Morocco is spring, when wildflowers cover the mountainsides and temperatures are mild (70s in Marrakesh). You can still barter on room rates this time of year, as crowds haven’t picked up yet and proprietors are keen to get the season going. Fall is the next best time to experience Morocco, as the summer heat has dissipated and crowds are thinner.
