Nantucket Town and Coasts

Town and Coasts

Of this diminutive island’s 50 square miles, nearly 40-percent of the land is protected. Cars aren’t recommended – there isn’t even a traffic light on the island. Instead, get to know Nantucket through its extensive biking and walking paths.

Nantucket Town
The only town on the island is the hub of activity, and Main Street is its core. Streets fan out from the center, each lined with boutiques, restaurant,s and 18th-century buildings.
Siasconset
Called “Sconset” by the locals, Siasconset is a quiet cluster of cottages, hotels, and restaurants on the east coast of the island. It’s the perfect escape from the summer crowds.
Surfside
As the name implies, the rough, open-ocean waters of southern Surfside’s coast make for thrilling surfing.
Wauwinet
Located on the northeast coast, Wauwinet is popular with travelers for its surplus of conservation land and its luxury hotel, which is named in honor of the area's beauty.
Madaket
Located on the west coast, Madaket is famous for its large beach and magnificent, multi-hued sunsets.
