Peak Season: May to October The warm weather contributes to a long high season, with more outdoor events, but it also packs Route 29 with tourists, tour buses, and bikers; and hotel rates soar. Visit the smaller, more distant wineries for fewer crowds. The grape harvest in September and October is a popular time.

Off Season: December to March Bad storms can close the roads, which also means fewer crowds and discounted hotel rates. Some winery visiting rooms are closed or have limited hours, but the attention you’ll receive is phenomenal.

Sweet Spot: April; November Fewer tourists and occasional warm weather make this an ideal time for visiting, though some businesses operate with shorter hours. Go in April when the mustard flowers are in bloom. Go in November and catch the end of the grape harvest and the beginning of winemaking season.
