Naples Great Values

Great Values

From the palatial homes of Port Royal to the luxury beach resorts of Pelican Bay, it's no secret that Naples attracts (and seems to require) a lot of money. But there's no need to cross this balmy city off your list just because you're vacationing on a budget. From affordable, well-located accommodations more to activities that won't empty your pockets, we've zeroed in on the inexpensive, yet unforgettable, establishments that deliver the biggest bang for your buck.

Smart Splurge    Great Value
Tree-lined street views surround the Trianon in downtown Naples, a short walk from the Fifth Avenue South shopping and restaurant district and less than a mile from the beach. The high-ceilinged lobby with traditional furnishings, fireplace, and chandeliers seems a little fussy for this friendly property. The 55 spacious rooms and three one-bedroom suites all have terraces or balconies; the heated pool is small, but well maintained. Continental breakfast and WiFi are included.

Delnor-Wiggins Pass State Park
A mile of Naples's famous white sand runs through this Gulf Coast park, which is good for swimming, snorkeling, shelling, and picnics. Fishermen cast their lines at Wiggins Pass, which is off-limits to swimmers; parking area 2 is closest to the offshore reef where scuba diving is permitted; a tower at the north end provides great coastal views. Open daily, 8am to sundown.

The Naples Beach Hotel & Golf Club
Hedy Lamarr played here. Located just north of downtown, this beloved 6,488-yard, par-72 public course is the oldest in the city, originally constructed in the 1920s, redesigned in 1948, and later upgraded. With its Gulf of Mexico location, lovely old-growth trees, and lakes on six holes, it gives swankier clubs a run for the money.

Bayshore Coffee Company
Coffee shop by day, entertainment venue by night. This casual family-run eatery and wine bar hosts open mic nights, art shows, and live bands with styles ranging from bluegrass to jazz, Irish blues to Latin. Wine tastings are also in the repertoire; Bayshore's wine list focuses on smaller-producing boutique vineyards, so selections change from month to month. Cover is $4 on live music nights (all proceeds go to the bands).
