Coping with humidity and hurricane threats, particularly in late summer, is the tradeoff for low hotel rates, less crowded beaches, and access to some semi-private golf courses. The first few weeks of December are equally quiet, but offer gorgeous weather.

Shoulder season is quiet with low hotel rates, but without the humidity that plagues the height of summer. Despite falling at the end of hurricane season, October and November are usually balmy and storm-free.
