From elegant meals at plantation inns to lowbrow seafood shacks beloved by locals, dining in Nevis is something to savor. In recent years, the culinary scene has benefitted from several new upscale restaurants, once mostly the domain of expensive hotel properties. At these establishments, expert chefs … more infuse local dishes with international flavors, resulting in decadent, creative fare worth splurging on. No matter where it’s served, however, seafood is a standout (choose from abundant offerings from the Atlantic like spiny lobster, shrimp, and mahi mahi). Nevisians are also fans of the grill, with BBQ chicken, pork, and grilled fish featuring prominently on many menus. Adventurous palates should try goatwater: locally made soup made with goatmeat, usually with chunks of bone in the bowl. Some of the more touristy restaurants close in late August and September, while those that have a strong local clientele stay open year-round. Most people sit down to dinner on Nevis at around 7:30pm.
