Cheryl “Cherrianne” Liburd, who lived and worked in Europe for several years before settling down in Nevis, owns this attractive ceramics store just outside of Charlestown. Shop the wide array of hand-painted ceramic objects, including platters, bowls, and pitchers. Most items are oven-, dishwasher-, and microwave-safe.

Watch pottery-makers in action at this simple workshop, where the artisans use techniques that have been handed down on the island for hundreds of years. Small knickknacks like ashtrays are available for a few dollars, while larger pieces such as monkey jars – large clay pots used for cooking and keeping water cold – run higher. The building, about an hour east of the airport, is small and not well-marked, but any local can point it out if you miss it.

An excellent spot for original art, this gallery pays tribute to Eva Wilkin, Nevis’s most famous artist (even Prince Charles showed up to see her work, which pays tribute to island life through colorful paintings and sketches). A permanent collection of Wilkin’s paintings and murals is housed here, and originals are also for sale. The setting for the gallery – an 18th-century windmill – is almost as unique as the artwork.

Pick up original hand-crafted goods and foods at this small store just a few steps from the wharf in downtown Charlestown. For sale are items made of goatskin, local wines, guava cheese – a local specialty – hot pepper sauce, jellies, and jams.

Join Nevisians stocking up on produce at this bustling market, which specializes in locally grown fruits and vegetables like bananas, sweet potatoes, pumpkins, and yams. Saturday is the busiest day; on Tuesdays, a boat arrives from the nearby island of Dominica, yielding produce that isn't readily available on Nevis (like oranges and pineapples). There's also a fish market, where local fisherman hawk their daily catch.

International Caribbean clothing is the specialty here, with hand-painted, tie-dyed, and batik styles all on display. It’s the perfect place to stock up on souvenirs and sarongs. The store also has locations on St. Kitts and Antigua.

Several steps up from basic tourist shops, this classy boutique features a quality array of souvenir items, from lightweight sundresses to straw handbags to jewelry. In addition to items from Nevis, you’ll also find jewelry from Indonesia and crafts from around the Caribbean. Closed September.

This cheerful building smack in the center of Charlestown was once Nevis’s cotton ginnery; now it’s a modern-day shopping center. About a dozen shops, most selling arts-and-crafts items such as wood carvings and wind chimes or island-centric items like beach wraps and straw mats, now make their homes there.

A must during an excursion to Charlestown, even for non-collectors, this shop is dedicated solely to stamps produced on Nevis. Among them: stunning scenes of the island, its history, native flora and fauna, and its famous visitors (including the late Princess Diana). And you won’t find an easier way to finally dash off that postcard to home: The shop sells them, pre-stamped and ready for mailing. Closed weekends.
