New Mexico’s busiest time of year sees families on summer vacations and higher rates across the board. Summer days are hot (temperatures peak in the 90s between noon and 4pm). Nights are cooler (average temperature: 65°F).
Off Season: November to April
Things calm down after the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta in October, but expect higher rates from Thanksgiving to early-April, when winter snow brings skiers to Santa Fe and Taos. Call ahead: some establishments close for the winter.
Sweet Spot: September; October
Fewer crowds, reduced rates, and 70°F weather make this an ideal time to visit. Enjoy fall color, the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta and Santa Fe’s “burning of Zozobra” – a 50-foot marionette that represents “Old Man Gloom.”
