New York: When To Go

Peak Season: May to October New York City’s summer temperatures can swelter, with highs reaching well into the 90s, while the rest of the state enjoys pleasant and long 70- to 80-degree days. September and October are glorious, with bright skies and fall foliage to rival New England, but without the sky-rocketing hotel rates.

Off Season: December to February Winter hits everywhere north of New York City hard, with average temperatures from 20-30 degrees, and some areas receiving more than 100 inches of snow. The ski resorts of Hunter, Whiteface and Gore mountains aren’t complaining, though.

Sweet Spot: November; March; April Upstate can be cold, wet and dark on the borders of winter, but New York City is a wonder in any season, especially when those exorbitant hotel rates dip a little.
