New York City’s summer temperatures can swelter, with highs reaching well into the 90s, while the rest of the state enjoys pleasant and long 70- to 80-degree days. September and October are glorious, with bright skies and fall foliage to rival New England, but without the sky-rocketing hotel rates.

Winter hits everywhere north of New York City hard, with average temperatures from 20-30 degrees, and some areas receiving more than 100 inches of snow. The ski resorts of Hunter, Whiteface and Gore mountains aren’t complaining, though.

Upstate can be cold, wet and dark on the borders of winter, but New York City is a wonder in any season, especially when those exorbitant hotel rates dip a little.
