Peak Season: November to March (ski areas June to August)
Late summer (late January to March) brings sunshine and, with the kids back to school, fewer crowds. In the ski resort towns, though, the high season generally starts in June.
Off Season: May to September
May has plenty of crisp, clear days. June and July, the coldest months (average temperature: 43°F), are the best for skiing, which means that ski resorts boom while the rest of the island slumbers.
Sweet Spot: April; October
Although generally pleasant, don’t plan on swimming during these months. Temperatures are moderate (average highs of 61-64˚F) and you're likely to strike showers, especially on the North Island, but the sun usually makes an appearance.
