Norway Itineraries

Start off with a day or two in Oslo, taking in some of the many museums, galleries, shops, and restaurants the capital has to offer; then head to Bergen, gateway of the fjords, for a glimpse of the rugged west coast. Travel by train: the Oslo-Bergen line is one of the most picturesque train journeys in the world, and Northern Europe’s highest.

In addition to the long weekend itinerary above, take a boat tour on the spectacular Hardangerfjord and Sognefjord, followed by a trip on the Flåm Railway, before continuing onto the Hardangervidda, Europe’s largest mountain plateau, for a spot of hiking. Or head south towards Stavanger and Lysefjord, home to Preikestolen, the pulpit rock, one of Norway’s most visited sites.

In addition to the long weekend and one week itineraries above, take time to linger on the western coast, exploring more of the fjords, but also some of the area’s many islands. You can push further south for a taste of life on the “Norwegian Riviera,” or spend a few days in the far north to catch a glimpse of the midnight sun or the northern lights (depending on the season).
