Norway When To Go

Peak Season: July to August
Summer is a spectacular season in Norway, with clear blue skies, balmy temperatures (if you’re lucky), and prolonged spans of uninterrupted daylight (the sun sets in Oslo around 11pm on the longest days of the year, and the northernmost regions above the Arctic Circle enjoy 24 hours of sun). Summer is also when you’ll encounter the biggest crowds and slightly higher prices. Book lodging well in advance for the most popular spots.
Off Season: October to April
Temperatures drop dramatically in winter, particularly in the north and east, so wrap up warm and allow more time to travel around as snow and ice can make driving difficult. This is the best season to spot the northern lights, and many travel north to see them at this time of year.
Sweet Spot: May to June; September
Late spring is a great time to be in Norway, with mild weather, blossoming trees, and wild flowers everywhere. The tourist season hasn’t kicked in yet, so you’ll have the place virtually to yourself. September brings a chill to the air, but it’s a pleasant month too, with the onset of fall turning the landscape red, orange, and yellow, particularly in the east and south.
