The summer is when Nova Scotia shines, thanks to the great, 73-degree weather, and the abundance of outdoor activities like swimming, fishing, and hiking. Expect higher rates and an influx of visitors, but rest assured that it is still possible to find empty coves and lovely, uncrowded towns on the island.

Winter is, literally, freezing in Nova Scotia and late fall (November) and early spring (March and April) aren’t that much more comfortable, with temperatures in the 40s. Most visitors stay away during these months, leaving the island pretty quiet. The hotels that do stay open offer significant discounts, but be aware that many properties, along with many attractions, close during this time.

It’s surprising that not more people take advantage of the beautiful spring and fall months in Nova Scotia, which usher in fields of flowers and brightly colored foliage, respectively. Although temperatures in the 60s are not ideal for swimming, they are perfect for other outdoor activities like biking, hiking, and fishing. Reduced hotel rates also make this the perfect time to cash in on an affordable vacation.
