Oslo Tips

Currency
Credit cards are widely accepted and ATMs are everywhere in Oslo, along with currency exchange machines, handily placed at railway stations and airports.
Pack lightly
Pack lightly and buy your winter woollies locally. Norway produces some of the most beautiful hand-knit woollen sweaters, hats, and scarves that you’ll find anywhere – and Oslo is the place to buy them!
Oslo on the cheap
Oslo doesn’t have to be expensive. Book your hotels online: hotel booking websites offer considerably reduced rates, especially over the summer. Avoid expensive taxi fares by taking the Airport Express Train and, once in town, walking everywhere.
Budget eats
Eating out can be expensive, so if you’re on a budget, buy your seafood lunch at the fish markets, take advantage of fixed-price business lunches, and pick up picnic supplies to take to one of the city’s many parks.
Feast on seafood
Oslo’s markets offer delicious, daily-fresh seafood straight from the fishing boats, at very reasonable prices. Head to the fishmarket to buy fresh shrimps or herrings served on brown bread with mayonnaise for just a few euros.
Oslo in summer
Summer is the best time to visit, not only for the long days of sunshine. The city is abuzz with activities, many free: from live music and buskers in the streets to summer concerts in the parks and open-air exhibitions.
