Palm Beach Nightlife

Overview

Palm Beach is geared toward high-society and its ubiquitous wannabes, creating an endless fashion parade through its posh lounges. Downtown West Palm delivers a younger, hipper nightlife scene – more tattooed than Chanel-ed. Peruse the small coastal towns for laid-back waterfront bars. On the whole, the county delivers a low-key scene after dark, but with lots of live performances in the mix. Most bars close between 2am and 4am.

Leopard Lounge
Inside the historic Chesterfield Hotel is this throwback to another era, a restaurant and bar bedecked in leopard print with crimson Ruben-esque nudes gazing down from the ceiling. Live entertainment, from classical guitarists to singers belting show tunes, star nightly and during winter high season, the lounge buzzes with an eclectic mix, ranging in age from mid-30s to late 70s.

Respectable Street Café
Thought synth-bands like Information Society were long gone? They still have a home for live performance thanks to this two-decades-old alternative venue in downtown West Palm. Between concert dates, DJs spin everything from industrial to hip hop to retro '80s, depending on the night. When in doubt, wear black.

Havana Hideout
Though Cuba is miles away, this tropical hideaway offers plenty of relaxed island flavor: sangria happy hours, a cigar garden, Cuban "street" food, and open mic nights. Palm Beach feels equally far away from this local gem. It's dog friendly, too. There’s a $2 cover on nights with live music.

The Lounge
Avant-jazz anyone? The music and crowd are eclectic at The Lounge, a hip hangout for fab cocktails, conversation, and experimental live acts, which gets into a gay groove on Saturday nights. Glass tile lines the bar side of the long, narrow space and comfy couches flank the other, creating a cool, contemporary scene.

The Royal Room Cabaret
A favorite of the senior set, the Colony Hotel's Royal Room is a gem for any fan of the great American songbook. This is serious cabaret, a la the Algonquin's Oak Room in NYC, attracting vocalists like Tony-winner Faith Prince, Johnny Carson favorite Marilyn Maye, and Manhattan staple Steve Ross.

Blue Martini
There's a bit of a Downtown Disney quality to Blue Martini: it's a calculated capitalization on the designer drink craze, conveniently placed at the CityPlace shopping center. But they do their namesake cocktails well, and have been enough of a hit to warrant five Florida locales, plus one in Las Vegas.
