One of the oldest and most romantic spots in all of Paris is the picturesque Ile Saint Louis, a tiny island in the middle of the Seine. Just entering the enchanting lobby of this 17th century, country-style, 23-room hotel, is like stepping back in time. The stone fireplace, wood paneled walls, and terracotta… more floor covered in Persian rugs exude the warm feeling of an informal estate. The smallish rooms are somewhat Spartan, with a very few antiques here and there, but it’s all quite tastefully decorated, with good, full bathrooms. Rooms 661 and 662, located on the top floor beneath the mansard roof, are the property’s best units because they are the largest and the brightest respectively. If it’s booked up – as the Lutece often is in high season – try their other hotel just up the street, the equally charming Deux-Iles.
