Sherman's Expert Review

When you’re paying hostel prices for a big-city hotel, there’s probably a catch, and the charismatic Eldorado, located in the Batignolles section of the 17th Arrondissement, is no exception. First the positive: the rooms are clean and pleasingly decorated in thrift store-chic fashion; there’smore a lovely bamboo-encircled garden café downstairs; and two metro lines (the 2 and the 13) are just five minutes away. Some rooms share bathrooms, but most have en-suite facilities. Now for the not so great: in place of an elevator there’s a narrow, five-story staircase; there’s no Internet access; and summer can be almost unbearable because there’s no air conditioning. But if you’re looking for a good base from which to explore the city, this deal is hard to beat.

"Great - if you can get a booking!"

Unfortunately (for travellers) the El Dorado is a victim of their own success. I have stayed a few times at El Dorado on trips to Paris, but many more times I have been turned away as it is full. Admittedly I often leave my booking to the last... more

"Very charming, and an excellent value"

We loved this hotel! Plenty of character, and very clean and comfortable, with more ammenities than I expected for the price. And just around the corner is a fantastic brasserie and a fantastic Lebanese restaurant with the best filafel I've ever... more

"A french eperience"

I enjoyed Hotel Eldorado, I liked its authentic nature, its earthiness. The rooms are fine, service is good, but the attraction is defintiely a feeling of the cool Paris, the off-beat Paris, perhaps even the real Paris. more

The unpretentious Eldorado, located in the relatively undiscovered Batignolles Quarter just west of Montmartre, is perfect for guests who are happy lying low without room phones, TVs, or an elevator. Each room has its individual distressed-chic... more

"Not perfect, but not bad either!"

My boyfriend and I stayed at Hotel Eldorado in early June for 4 nights. I think I expected a lot from it (from the reviews) and found that it did not completely meet those expectations. I would give 3 1/2 star but that isn't an option, so 3 it... more

"Value and budget"

We booked a cheap simple room at El Dorado, with no ensuite, for €50 a night. The location wasn't bad, much more real Paris than other central areas. The bed though was not comfortable and the room was small and lacked air. But hey, we were... more

"Smokey but enjoyable"

I stayed at Eldorado for two nights and enjoyed the value for money. My bed was comfy and the service was friendly. However my room was very noisy and smokey. It seems like people smoke all over the hotel. Next time I would definately get a... more
