Greater Phoenix – also known as the Valley of the Sun – encompasses a 2,000-square-mile area in the midst of the eerily beautiful Sonoran Desert. Spilling over from Arizona’s capital city Phoenix, the region includes some two dozen outlying and burgeoning communities like chic Scottsdale and youth-infused Tempe. Visitors are often surprised to learn that Phoenix – home to an up and coming downtown – is the fifth largest city in the country.
This quarter’s glistening corporate buildings and cultural institutions reflect the city’s newness. A $600 million convention center, the introduction of light rail, and a host of new restaurants and residences are helping revive a downtown that used to roll up the welcome mat at 5pm.
Phoenix's northeastern neighbor is a posh resort town where beautiful people, high-end boutiques, extravagant homes, spas, golf courses, and nightlife converge – it’s also our preferred home base for the Valley.
Old Town is an area in transition. It still retains its Old West flavor complete with souvenir shops, old style saloons, and Southwestern restaurants, but the “new” Old Town is all about boutique hotels, chic restaurants, and hot nightclubs.
Just south of Scottsdale, this fast-growing city owes its fun, youthful, college-town vibe to Arizona State University. Fun, funky boutiques, eateries, pubs, and clubs line Mill Avenue.
Considered to be among the top antiquing spots in America, this 12-block neighborhood covers two districts: 19th century Catlin Court and Old Towne, also known for unique boutiques.
