Playa del Carmen Day Trips

Day Trips

Within a few hours of the cosmopolitan world that is Playa del Carmen, an entirely different world awaits. Ancient Mayan pyramids tower over the jungle – and lush rainforests, biological reserves, and serene tropical islands can all be found within a short drive or ferry ride.

Smart Splurge    Great Value
Cozumel
Just a 25 minute ferry ride away, the island of Cozumel awaits. It has loads of shops, buzzing restaurants, and bars, but the real draw are the Technicolor coral reefs that ring the island and make it a scuba-diver’s dream. It’s lost some its appeal thanks to the constant cruise traffic, but it’s a fine way to kill a day, especially if you time it when there isn’t a ship at port.

Cancun
While this brashly Americanized city is dominated by mega-chain resorts and Spring Break crowds, there's something to be said for Cancun, one of the world’s top tourist destinations. Fully recovered from Hurricane Wilma in 2005, there are countless new restaurants, clubs, activities, shops, and spas, not to mention a silky sand beach.
