Playa del Carmen: When To Go

Peak Season: October to March Temperatures are mild, hovering around 65-70 degrees, and rain is rare. Room rates soar during the holiday season from December 15 through January 1.

Off Season: July to August These hurricane-vulnerable, hot and humid summer months can bring brief showers or several days of intense rain. Most hotels run specials, although there is no change in the rack rates. The heat, humidity, and mosquitoes can become oppressive inland, but the coast is always pleasant.

Sweet Spot: September; April and May The resorts and ruins are relatively void of Americans at the tail end of hurricane season in September, although you’ll find vacationing Europeans. You may find some real deals during this period, so check with the hotels. With the exception of Easter week and the Spring Solstice when Mexicans flock to the beach, April and May are also lightly traveled, making deals easier to come by.
