This 15-room boutique retreat – one of the trendiest properties in an already trendy city – shares the same owners as the iconic Mexico City hotel Habita. With a central lounge area that serves as the lobby, pool, restaurant, and bar it feels like a Mexican version of South Beach. The standard… more rooms, which face the lounge, lack TVs and most amenities but are still quite appealing, with frosted glass doors, white curtains, and big cozy beds. And don’t forget, it’s only two blocks from the ocean.

The best part of the hotel were the photos on the internet. We had just got engaged in Tulum so were looking forward to having several relaxing nights at the Deseo. No such experience exists there. The first indication of trouble were the earplugs... more

If I were backpacking around Mexico and happened on this place, and IF they charged, say, $40 a night for a room, I'd love it. But $240? Get real. I guess it proves there's a sucker born every minute, and I'm one of them. I'd love to own this hotel... more
