Prague Local Tips

Drinking water
Yes, the tap water is safe to drink in Prague.
Getting around
Prague’s public transportation is safe and efficient. The metro runs from 5am to midnight; main tram lines operate 24 hours day. Buy daily, weekly passes from machines located in the subway and in many stores.
Steady steps
Be sure to wear comfortable shoes and avoid high heels – Prague is paved in cobblestones.
Bug watch
If you’re traveling outdoors, especially in wooded areas, take care to cover extremities to avoid contact with ticks – the little suckers can carry encephalitis and/or Lyme disease.
Legally insured
In order to enter the Czech Republic, visitors must provide proof of medical insurance (minimum coverage: $35,000). A health insurance card or an internationally recognized credit card with health insurance included will generally suffice.
Call ahead
In Prague, in order to avoid being overcharged by dishonest cabbies, it’s best to call ahead for a taxi rather than hail one in the street. Dial this number: 14-014.
