Puerto Rico: Hotels

A wave of recent renovations has brought Puerto Rico’s best properties up to speed, so visitors can expect top-of-the-line amenities during their stay. Most major hotels are situated in the San Juan area, though a few standouts are located throughout the island (El Conquistador in Fajardo springs to mind). Sun-seekers will want to stick to properties along Isla Verde and Condado in San Juan (though Old San Juan is charming, it’s at least a 20-minute drive from the beach). Large establishments like the Marriot and the Ritz provide prime sand-and-surf access, casinos, and restaurants, while boutique hotels – a new phenomenon that has swept the island in the past five years – tend to provide more personality and privacy, often for less. Prices range from $99 on the low end to over $400 on the high end.
