Reykjavik When To Go

Peak Season: June to August
Iceland has just two seasons: summer and winter. The only really warm period in Reykjavik falls between June and August. Days are long – the sun stays out nearly 24 hours around the end of June and beginning of July – and temperatures are balmy, though they rarely reach the high-60s. During this time, hotel prices may be double or more.
Off Season: October to April
Temperature-wise, the rest of the year remains pretty much the same, with lows in the 30s, highs in the 40s, and brief showers nearly every day. If winter sports are your forte, you might consider hitting the slopes from November to March when snow is plentiful. Hotels and airfare are cheapest during this time, but you’ll also find during the darkest months (December and January), the sun only appears for three to four hours.
Sweet Spot: September; May
The weather varies by the year – sometimes the first snow may fall as early as September and not melt until after May – but in general, these two months are ideal times to visit, as they see less tourists and lower prices. Just remember: Shoulder months mean fewer flights and reduced bus timetables.
