Rhineland: When To Go

Peak Season: June to October The Rhine Valley’s mild Indian summer can last through October, and the outdoor harvest festivals and late-summer fireworks displays make this the best (albeit most crowded and most expensive) time to visit.

Off Season: November to March Winters here are more temperate than in other parts of Germany, but temperatures tend to drop below freezing and stay there. Christmas festivals (not to mention lower hotel prices) can make visiting in winter worthwhile.

Sweet Spot: March to May Spring is a lovely time to visit the Rhineland. Though it comes late, the change from gray to green seems to occur in more than just the trees and vines; everyone’s in a good mood, especially value-conscious tourists who can score good deals on hotels and airfare during this time.
