Sherman's Expert Review

Tucked amid the Gaslamp Quarter’s clubs and restaurants, this allegedly haunted 132-room Victorian-era hideaway was taken down and reconstructed, brick by brick, in the late ’70s and early ’80s. Rooms   are furnished with antiques and gas fireplaces, and the hotel offersmore high tea on Saturday afternoons in Ida Bailey’s Restaurant, named after an infamous madam who worked two blocks away, back when the area was known for its disreputable activity.

"A BAD CHOICE"

I had seen the hotel exterior before and thought it looked like a nice place to stay. I was wrong, from the time I checked in and met with a very unfriendly clerk at the desk who told me to READ the instructions on the reception desk about the TV... more

I can say nothing about the hotel itself 'cause I've never stayed there, so let's talk about brunch. We went to their special Mother's Day brunch for my first Mommy Day ever. Mr. Z wanted us to do a nice, special, super-spiffy brunch for our very... more

"Paper thin walls, boutique, and small rooms"

I liked the hotel overall - it's a cute little boutique hotel. Meaning, the rooms are tiny, the beds are only full size and the bathroom is noisy and the showerhead is too low. It's in a fantastic location. But, I could hear my neighbor clearly and... more

The Horton Grand is a fun alternative choice if you are looking to get away for a night or two. My boyfriend and I decided to plan a little trip when Ryan Adams was in town and I had always heard that the Horton Grand was a unique (read: haunted)... more

"NOT"

Except for the location, this place is a DUMP! It might be historic but so what! The last time they must have upgraded anything had to be 10 years ago! For the cost, I so would NOT recommend this place.

"DO NOT STAY HERE"

THis hotel was a mistake. From the highly unaccomodating staff to the musty, dirty rooms I was mortified. They could not have done less for the large party I was there with. Stay somewhere, ANYWHERE, else.

My boyfriend and I stumbled into this hotel one night after hanging out in the gaslamp and I fell in love right away.  It felt so haunted! I am a weirdo who loves that sort of thing.  The furniture, photos/paintings, curtains, piano in the velvet... more

"San Diego downtown"

Very nice old rebuilt hotel in the downtown San Diego Gaslamp area. Close to everything and easy to get to and from the freeways

We stayed here on a last minute trip to San Diego.  The location was fine but we felt like we were sleeping at grandma's house.  The furniture, the smell, and the feeling as though grandma was going to pop in the room at any moment did not make... more
