Sanibel and Captiva Islands When To Go

Peak Season: January to April
Cooler weather during winter is offset by less humidity and the appeal of the best shelling and birding times. In March and April, perfect 75-degree temperatures also mean more snowbirds, so to avoid the height of tourist season crowds, aim for January and February.
Low Season: June to October
With temperatures in the 90s, most find this time of year too hot and humid to visit, but there are reduced rates, and cooling sea breezes and summer storms do provide relief from the high humidity. Pack bug spray to ward off mosquitoes and be aware that some establishments close in September due to the heat, humidity, and threat of hurricanes.
Sweet Spot: May; November to early December
After hurricane season ends and before the holiday rates kick in, the climate is warm and crowds haven’t descended yet, so deals can be found and the air is quiet and serene. May also offers a brief window of opportunity for fewer crowds and better rates without having to sacrifice pleasant weather.
