Shanghai When To Go

Peak Season: May; September to November
Because spring and fall provide the most consistently pleasant climate, high season for international tour groups includes May, September, October, and November. These months also contain two of China’s “golden week” holidays – Labor Day (May 1) and National Day (October 1) – when domestic travel reaches the level of mass migration.
Off Season: December to February
December, January, and February can be chilly but are rarely below freezing. Although these months represent low season for foreigners, millions of Shanghai residents journey to their home villages for the Spring Festival (Chinese New Year). Because business travelers avoid the fireworks, it’s a good time to uncover luxury hotel deals.
Sweet Spot: March to April; June to August
March and April offer fine weather along with flowering plums, peaches, and magnolias. June, July, and August are unrelentingly hot and humid, but still popular.
