Owned by a brother and sister who are the fifth generation to run their nearby Bartolomei Ranch, the Farmhouse Inn's Michelin-starred restaurant is reason enough to book here – but the 10 modern rooms in the 1873-built inn seal the deal. Rooms have fireplaces, Oriental rugs, Egyptian linens, whirlpool tubs, flat-screen TVs, and complimentary soft drinks, coffee or tea, and cookies.

A short stroll from Healdsburg’s leafy town square, Honor Mansion is a local favorite. Five rooms are in the 1883 Victorian mansion and eight suites are in separate cottages. Rooms are filled with antiques; many have claw-foot tubs and some cottage suites have wet bars, outdoor Jacuzzis, and fireplaces. Some rooms in the main building are television-free; all have soft featherbeds and duvets.

Mediterranean-style retreat hidden among towering redwoods; rooms vary in size and style, from masculine woods and bricks to floral prints and pink walls, but all are comfortable; restaurant is top-notch.
