South Africa When To Go

Peak Season: November to February
During peak summer season in South Africa, days are generally long, balmy, and, in the inland regions, uncomfortably hot (with highs close to 100ºF). South Africans travel within their country during this busy school holiday period, so make sure you book well in advance.
Off Season: April to September
The weather is extremely pleasant, with warm, dry days (highs around 60ºF) and cold nights (lows around 30ºF); game viewing is best in the winter months as vegetation becomes sparse. Local holidaymakers have packed up their umbrellas and are all back at school and work. Hotel prices are cheaper and you can often find package deals for a song.
Sweet Spot: March; October
Go in the fall (March) to witness the wine harvest; go in the spring (October) to see the blooming wild flowers of the Western Cape provinces. Great package deals can often be found during this time.
