The centrally located Medina Grand Adelaide Treasury occupies the city’s historic former treasury building, dating back to 1839. The building was extensively restored in 2002 and now has 80 rooms – no two alike – all with kitchenettes and laundry facilities (it’s a great option for families). Although the property sports a modern look and amenities, many 19th-century elements were carefully preserved, including limestone walls, archways, and cast iron columns. There’s a cool indoor lap pool with adjoining gym, sauna and spa, while a restaurant occupies the central courtyard, which – legend has it – the Beatles once ducked through to escape a mob while on tour in 1964. Rundle Mall, with shopping and dozens of restaurants, is three blocks away, while Adelaide’s famed Central Market is a five-minute walk.
