Taos became famous as a place to visit in the early 20th century, when it was discovered by artists who found inspiration in its beauty. The premier art patroness of that time, Mabel Dodge Luhan, lived in this historic 1804 adobe house in the 1920s and 1930s and hosted many luminaries, from Georgia O'Keeffe to Willa Cather, here. Today it's a first-rate B&B with 11 rooms, eight with fireplaces. The house sits on a property that adjoins the Taos Pueblo land – it's shaded by leafy cottonwood and willow trees and surrounded by flower gardens. Rooms have such authentic New Mexico touches as beam ceilings and locally woven quilts and blankets.
