Since it opened in the 1930s, this rambling 44-room hotel has been the classic place to stay, in part because of its enviable location just steps from the Taos Plaza. It's a charming place, with a wide range of rooms, from economical smaller units in the main inn to spacious newer rooms with more sumptuous furnishings in a separate building. Wherever you stay you'll encounter handcrafted wood furniture, mirrors, rugs, and blankets. Many rooms surround a lovely courtyard, and others open to a patio. The hotel has an inviting lobby bar that's a favorite haunt for margaritas, chips, and live music as well as an on-site excellent restaurant, Doc Martin's, which serves inventive New Mexican-inspired fare.
