If the first thing that comes to mind when you hear the words "all inclusive" is tacky tropical decor, colored wristbands, or kids screaming at the pool, then the new Breathless Cabo San Lucas will be a breath of fresh air. The resort opened last December with a more elevated traveler in mind -- combining waterfront views with easy accessibility to downtown, and myriad places to eat, drink, and even dance. We recently went to check it out first hand. Here's our review.

Best Feature

The best thing about this resort is the location. Situated on the east side of the city’s main harbor, it is just a 10-minute walk to downtown Cabo San Lucas while still providing direct access to the water. The resort's main building houses the guestrooms, an infinity pool, a bar, and a restaurant, and it directly faces the harbor, meaning all rooms have sweeping views of the water, surrounding mountains, and haciendas. The second building -- where you'll find another pool, the spa, the VIP lounge, and more restaurants -- overlooks Médano Beach and the Sea of Cortez. Bonus: With great shopping, lively bars, and restaurants within a short walk, there’s no need to limit your vacation to what's on the resort.

The Rooms

All of the resort's 169 rooms have private balconies that face either the ocean or harbor. The Allure rooms, geared toward groups, feature double or king-size beds, while the Xhale rooms and Master suites come with access to a private check-in area with snacks and drinks. The most luxurious accommodation is a three-bedroom suite with a Jacuzzi and a massive ocean-view terrace.

All rooms are equipped with smart TVs, mini-fridges (restocked daily), rainfall showers, and intuitive air conditioners that shut off when you open balcony doors. In-room tablets allow guests to access the Internet, contact room service, and view the events calendar. The resort also has its own private messaging service that allows guests to connect with one another for free.

The Food

There are eight restaurants and cafés on the property, including Spumant, a romantic Italian restaurant overlooking the water; Fish Nets, the go-to spot for seafood; and Kibbeh, which serves Lebanese cuisine. The only restaurant that is not part of the all-inclusive rate is La Biblioteca de Tequila by celebrity chef Richard Sandoval (open for dinner only), but with an impressive library of more than 150 tequilas and mezcals, and elevated Mexican dishes like coffee-rubbed carne asada and wild mushroom enchiladas, it is worth the added fee for a celebratory evening.

Who Will Love It

Between dance lessons, tequila tastings, and the rooftop lounge (which hosts Studio 54- and Great Gatsby-inspired parties), the resort is well-suited for a friends' getaway, bachelor and bachelorette parties, adult family vacations, and couples. And with poolside contests that range from ping pong to pole dancing, it isn't hard to make new friends during your stay.

Who Might Not

Those looking for peace and quiet. With a prime location along the harbor comes constant commotion from pirate cruises, party boats, and local fishermen coming in and out around the clock. The upbeat party atmosphere also means there is DJ music pumping from the Free Style Pool that can be heard from different parts of the resort, including the spa.

Nearby

The resort's proximity to the harbor means you’re in the perfect place to hop on a glass-bottom fishing boat for a ride to the famous Arch just around the bend. You’ll be a scenic 10-minute walk to Puerto Paraiso for all your shopping needs and to the downtown area for bar or restaurant hopping. The famous live music venue Cabo Wabo is a 15- to 20-minute walk.
