Getting to Alaska


The majority of direct flights from the contiguous U.S. touch down in Anchorage (ANC), though there are routes into Juneau (JNU), Ketchikan (KTN), and Fairbanks (FAI) as well.


Alaska Airlines, Continental, Delta, and American operate direct and nonstop flights from the continental U.S. For jaunts within Alaska proper, look to carriers like Alaska Airlines, Era Aviation, Wings of Alaska, Frontier Alaska, and L.A.B. Flying Service for scheduled service, while local bush plane operators outfitted with wheels, floats, or skis can be chartered for more remote destinations.

Flight Times

Most flights to Alaska originate or connect in Seattle and come into Anchorage (3.5 hours). 4 hours from Seattle to Fairbanks; 2.5 hours from Seattle to Juneau; 7.5 hours from New York to Anchorage; 6.5 hours from Chicago. Within Alaska, factor in 1.5 hours of flight time from Anchorage to Juneau, and 1 hour between Anchorage and Fairbanks.
