Lake Tahoe Money-Saving Tips

Up to date

Festivals are commonplace at Lake Tahoe. Before you arrive, check out local publications like those listed in our “more info” section (below) to find out what events coincide with your visit.

Rent a car

Shuttles from the airport are usually quite expensive, and you'll be grateful to have your own wheels to get around and explore different resorts and towns. National chains in Tahoe include Avis (www.avis.com), Dollar (www.dollarcar.com), and Hertz (www.hertz.com).

Head gear

Wear a helmet to avoid serious head injuries. Slope operators are continually grooming slopes to achieve perfect high-speed conditions – the upside is that you’ll fly down hills faster. The downside is potential danger if you fall.

Legal catch

If you plan to go fishing on your own without a tour operator, you will need a license – procure one from California (www.dfg.ca.gov/licensing) or Nevada (www.ndow.org/fish) – either is valid on the lake.
