Bar and nightlife scenes in the desert tend to center around hotel pools. You’re even likely to find locals hanging out at the pools during off hours. But for those who feel the need to get off the resort property, a handful of non-hotel bars are also worth checking out.

Palm Springs Nightlife

Citron Bar

The chic and chit-chatty patrons at this lemon-colored microbar inside the Viceroy spill out into the poolside courtyard, where a handful of cabanas act as makeshift gossip shelters to a martini- and aperitif-sipping fashion crowd.

This enormous club at the JW Marriott mega-resort prides itself on being the only “real” night club in the desert, with a thumping soundtrack of hip-hop, disco, top 40, and techno mixed Thursday through Saturday nights. Though it attracts all types and ages, it’s primarily a mini-skirt crowd with heavy emphasis on golfer’s daughters and wives whopping it up on the large dance floor during raucous post-spa bachelorette parties while dad gets some pre-green shuteye. Cover charge is $15.

Le Parker Méridien Palm Springs

The indoor and outdoor fire-pits at the Parker are ideal places to nurse a post-Jacuzzi Pims or cozy up to a big glass of Pinot. Prices are high, around $15/drink, but you’re paying for access rights to the captivating 13-acre resort and the privilege to knock back a few with Palm Spring’s belle monde.

Toucan's Tiki Lounge

Toucan's Tiki Lounge is the area’s largest gay bar and one of the most popular nightclubs in the area. Expect regular drag shows on the petite-but-packed dance floor and a crowded smoking patio where the GLBT crowd (mostly men) mingle.
