A cheaper and greener alternative to the big resorts is the Cedar House Sport Hotel, located in the town of Truckee about 10 miles from Squaw Valley. The 42 environmentally-friendly rooms are modern with innovative architecture and contemporary furnishings including leather platform beds, stainless steel bar stools, plywood chairs, and flatscreen TVs. A European-style breakfast that includes pastries, yogurt, fruit, eggs, and bacon is served daily. Cedar House also houses Stella, a small open kitchen restaurant with a limited but affordable menu.
