Getting to Lake Placid and Whiteface

By Car

Most visitors arrive by car; vehicle access is via the NY State Thruway (I-87). Factor in less than 5 hours of driving time from NYC, 5 hours from Boston, 2 hours from Montreal, or 2.25 hours from Albany, New York.

By Train

Amtrak offers a scenic route with service in the area on its NYC to Montreal line. Get off at the Westport stop (40 miles from Lake Placid); shuttle transfer service can be arranged through Majestic Limousine & Transportation (www.adklimo.com/96177.html).

By Bus

Bus service to Lake Placid from major hubs like Albany and NYC is additionally available via Adirondack Trailways (www.trailwaysny.com). Once in town, the free Mountain Valley Shuttle links Whiteface with Lake Placid in the winter.

By Air

Two minor regional airports, Adirondack Regional Airport (SLK) and Plattsburgh International Airport (PBG), service a small number of regional flights; another option is to fly into larger airports at Burlington, Vermont (BTV); Albany (ALB); or Montreal (YUL), and drive from there.
