With all eyes on the race for the White House, what better way to celebrate the upcoming election year than with a trip to the nation’s capital? Embassy Row Hotel -- a recently crowned winner on USA Today’s list of 10 Best New Hotels and one of the hippest properties in Washington, D.C. -- may be just the ticket. Why? It's offering 40 percent off rates throughout 2016 -- meaning rates as low as $90 per night and savings of around $150 compared to nearby four-star hotels.

The Countdown to 2016 sale is good for stays on most nights through next December and also waives the amenity fee (a $15 value) for those who book by December 31. Use promo code SAVENOW to take advantage of the offer.

The 40 percent discount represents significant savings, considering best available rates throughout the year are from $139-$379. We found that January is a particularly good time to visit -- when you apply the promotion, rates start from $90-$96 per night on January 3-9, 15-18, 22, 23, 29, and 30 for a deluxe queen room. (January is also the only month that doesn’t have any minimum stay restrictions.) For those who would like to see the cherry blossoms in the spring, the lowest rates of $120 can be nabbed for March 25-27.

Summer is typically a very busy (and therefore more expensive) travel time for Washington, D.C., but you'll find plenty of rates in the low-$100s with the sale. During the summer months, special rates start from $108 to $120 on June 10, 11, 24, and 25; July 15, 22, 23, 24, and 29-31; and August 4-7, 11-14, 18-21, and 25-28. Want to stay during the last four months of the year? The lowest price between September and December is $150, available September 9-11, 16-18, 23-25, and 30; October 1, 2, 7-9, 14, 15, 21, 22, and 28-30; November 3-6, 10-13, 17-20, and 20-27; and December 1-4, 8-11, and 15-18.

More about the property: Located in Dupont Circle, the hotel encompasses to 231 guestrooms and suites, as well as the neighborhood’s only rooftop bar -- perfect for enjoying the sunset during DC’s notoriously hot summer months. During the winter, grab a seat at Station Kitchen & Cocktails for shareable plates like mojito shrimp and ahi tacos. Rates include free access to WiFi, the gym, and pool amenities. Nearby, there’s the National Geographic Museum with exhibits about scientific expeditions, and the Woodrow Wilson House, a museum about the 28th president.
