Eat Your Heart Out, Houston
Lucille's

Calling all foodies: Through April 10, Houston chefs and restaurateurs are coming together to host Black Restaurant Week -- the city’s first culinary event created to exclusively support and honor black restaurants and chefs.

In the last five years, Houston’s culinary scene has received an increasing amount of buzz, and some of the greatest forces behind its success are the city’s venerable black restaurant owners, executive chefs, and catering companies. Chris Williams’ restaurant Lucille’s, Gatlin’s BBQ, and Café Abuja are among the eateries that will be hosting special menus for the week.

The Details: Participating restaurants (full list here) are offering three-course prix-fixe dinner menus for $35 or $45 per person, a two-course option for $20, and a $25 prix-fixe brunch. Tickets aren’t necessary, but reservations are recommended. A portion of the proceeds from each plate will benefit the local non-profit organization Change Happens!, which empowers at-risk youth through programs fighting drug abuse and domestic violence.

Don’t Miss: The Power of the Palate Bartending Competition on Saturday, April 9, where you can watch Houston’s top bartenders create craft cocktails on the spot, using produce from local black farmers.
