Looking to fill that wedge of time between Halloween and the holidays with a getaway? You're in luck: It happens to be a great time to nab travel deals. Here's where you can find some for under $175 per night.
While many parts of the country are starting to bundle up for colder weather, it'll be the perfect time to seek some sun and sand. Maya Beach Hotel has 10 units ranging from standard rooms to multi-bedroom dwellings, and all have views of the Caribbean Sea that can be taken in from the comfort of a porch or balcony. In November, rooms are priced from $105 per night; December is a bit pricier at $130, but note that stays here also include access to kayaks, standup paddleboards, snorkel gear, and bikes.
Telluride is a popular destination for outdoor activities like skiing, often resulting in high lodging prices -- but it’s cheaper if you know where to look. At this modest, newly remodeled inn, guests can find an outdoor hot tub, access to a free shuttle for transportation downtown, and free Internet access. Some rooms have a kitchenette, while others feature separate bedrooms. In November and December, nightly rates are from $109; that's a deep dive from what you'd pay at other resorts like Fairmont Heritage Place, Franz Klammer Lodge, where rates can easily jump to $400.
Kimpton’s newest property in Washington, DC opened earlier this year with 178 rooms, a rooftop deck with pool and lounge, and a restaurant serving mouthwatering eats like kimchi pickles, lamb belly tacos, and bacon fat fries. The lowest rate of this two-month period is $129 for executive rooms with a king bed or two queens; we found those on the nights of November 18-26 and December 2-3, 9-10, and 16-30. With availability over Thanksgiving and Christmas, this makes for a bargain holiday escape; rates in early fall get to as high as $319-$449.
Through October 7, this Kimpton outpost is running the Bmore Spontaneous Sale, which shaves 30 percent off stays between now and February 28, 2017 when using promo code FLASH. Upon trying out the promotion, we found rates from $139-$147 for king deluxe rooms on the nights of November 20-26, and December 4-7 and 18-21. You may also consider booking for November 28-30, and December 1-2 and 22-29 since prices are slightly higher at $154. Without the sale, nightly rates are $199 and up. Hotel Monaco is located on Charles Street in the former headquarters for B&O Railroad; on site, there is the B&O American Brasserie, serving fare like watermelon gazpacho, grilled cheese with pork belly confit, and of course, Maryland crab cakes.
It's no secret that Brooklyn is hotter than ever, and while that usually means exorbitant hotel rates, we found wallet-friendly prices at Nu Hotel. Book the Holiday Advance Saver by September 30 and you'll get a 15 percent discount on stays between November 1 and December 31, as well as complimentary breakfast, WiFi, and bike rentals. We test drove the offer and found standard queen room rates from $169 on the nights of December 11, 19, and 20. Rates bump up to $189-$199 on December 12, 13, 15, 22, and 26, but it's still a steal since some nights during the travel window are going for as much as $329. The downtown property is pet friendly, and has a lounge and fitness center.
How about a trip to Italy? Located in the often-overlooked region of Emilia Romagna, this resort has picture-perfect gardens, an expansive spa, indoor and outdoor pools, and onsite cooking classes. During high season in September and October, prices are from $387, but that softens to $172 for classic rooms on most nights in November and December.
